Thank you very much for your continued support, BAR Shinkai.
March is the “season of farewells,” and some of our customers are leaving Kamiyacho due to office relocations or personnel changes.
Some customers came to our restaurant saying, “My office is relocating in April and I won’t be able to come here for a while, so I came here to eat,” which made me feel both happy and sad.
However, April of 2019 is finally here, and the “season of encounters” has arrived!
With the start of a new year, it may be time for some evening dinners and banquets.

1.This Month’s Sake 「Single  Malt Yoichi」「Hokkaido Beer Otaru Ale」

This month, we will introduce two more sake recommended by BAR Shinkai. 

Masataka Taketsuru, the father of whisky in Japan, built a distillery in Yoichi, Hokkaido, which has a climate similar to that of Scotland, the home of whisky.

Single malt Yoichi was launched in 1989, and is made using the rare traditional method of coal-fired distillation at the Yoichi distillery.
It is highly regarded around the world as a representative whisky of Japan and has received numerous awards.

The second bottle is also a Hokkaido sake, “Otaru Beer Otaru Ale”.
An ale beer with a unique aroma and flavor due to high-temperature fermentation, this is an English-style ale from the Otaru Beer series.
The beer is fermented at a high temperature using top-fermenting yeast, resulting in a rich aromatic beer.It is a little richer than lager, but not as dark and mild as dark, making it easy to drink even for those who are not accustomed to drinking beer.
Hokkaido Beer Brewery produces a wide variety of beers and Western-style liquors rooted in the land of Hokkaido, and although it was established in 2002, the company is committed to using local ingredients to produce high-quality products that can only be made in Otaru.

2.New Item「Akkeshi  NEWBORN FUNDATIONS 3」「CraftGin 9148(Benizakura Distillery)」

We are pleased to announce the arrival of two new products in March.
 
「Akkeshi NEWBORN FUNDATIONS 3」

This is the third installment of the NEWBORN series, in which Akkeshi Distillery, which began production in November 2016, responds to fan demand to tell the story of “Akkeshi Distillery Today”.

This time, it is blended with non-piped original spirit matured for 8 to 23 months in new Hokkaido Mizunara oak barrels, also known as Japanese oak by overseas malt fans. This is a superb product with a rich flavor mixed with citrus fruits and the dense aroma unique to Mizunara oak. Those who have tasted the first and second bottles will be able to enjoy the differences as well.

As rumors say that the quality of the original sake is increasing day by day, the result is excellent despite the short aging period.
We can provide small quantities, so we recommend that you compare the first three bottles.

「CraftGin 9148(Benizakura Distillery)」

Craft gin produced by “Hokkaido Liberty Whisky Inc.” located in Sapporo, Hokkaido, is finally available for sale nationwide, and we have just received our shipment.

The botanicals used are Hidaka kelp, dried shiitake mushrooms, and kiriboshi dai, adding an “umami” element, which is a major difference from other gins.
It has a strong juniper berry flavor and a dry, punchy, gin-like taste, making it a “peculiar” gin in the good sense of the word. We recommend a gin and tonic or martini.

3.Japanese Craft Gin「AWA GIN」

Domestic craft GIN is highly recommended in our bar.
 
This month: “AWA GIN”.
It is made using only 100% domestic ingredients, mainly from Tokushima, and carefully brewed using all Yamadanishiki grade rice produced in Tokushima Prefecture without using barley, etc. The malt is then distilled using different types of pot stills (single still) and patent still (continuous still) to create a complex flavor with a rich personality.
Other ingredients used in AWA GIN include the peel of sudachi and kigashira yuzu citrus fruits, Awa Bancha tea, and sansho (Japanese pepper), and because it is steeped in a rich citrus aroma, it can become cloudy white when drunk on the rocks or with water.

The recommended way to drink it is with soda to enjoy the aroma of sudachi and yuzu.

4.Featured in the magazine “Ultimate Curry (Metropolitan Area Edition)”.

BAR Shinkai’s No.1 popular food menu “Spice Curry” was featured in the magazine “Ultimate Curry (Metropolitan Area Edition)” on sale on March 12.

Tokyo Spice Curry Frontline” introduces the spice curry situation in the Tokyo metropolitan area, including long-established restaurants, ethnic curry, individualistic curry, European-style curry, and more.

It is a great honor for our restaurant, which has been open less than a year, to be featured in such a magazine along with many long-established famous restaurants and high-profile curry stores.

We hope that this will be an opportunity for even more customers to learn about our curry and enjoy the taste of our spiced curry.
